The Department of Turkish Language and Literature started its activities in 2004 with its founding faculty member and in the Fall Semester of the 2005-2006 academic year by accepting students.
Our department has a 4-year undergraduate program. In this program, courses are taught in the fields of Historical and Modern Turkic Languages, Modern Turkish Literature, Turkish Folk Literature, Classical Turkish Literature, and research and education are carried out for all stages of Turkish Language and Literature.
Our department has 5 main branches: Old Turkic Language, Modern Turkish Language, Classical Turkish Literature, Modern Turkish Literature, Turkish Folk Literature.
Within the Institute of Graduate Studies of our university, there is a doctorate program in Turkish Language and Literature and a master's program with thesis in three fields: Turkish Language and Literature, Modern Turkish Language, Modern Turkish Literature.
Vision and Mission
The vision of our department is to be among the distinguished and respected departments in our country in the field of Turkic language, Turkic culture, Turkic literature, in short, the science of Turkic.
The mission of our department is to evaluate the texts in the field of Turkish Language and Literature from the beginning to the present day in literary and philological terms; to teach the place of these products in the formation and development of Turkic culture at the academic level; to equip students with comprehensive knowledge about Turkish Language and Literature and to train them as scientists, experts and teachers that the country needs.
Department Facilities
The Department of Turkish Language and Literature carries out academic activities alongside its educational processes with a team of 6 Professors, 8 Associate Professors, 5 Assistant Professors, and 1 Research Assistant, all of whom are experts in their field with extensive knowledge of language and literature.
The department provides classrooms and study halls equipped with projection systems and computer facilities. Students of the department can utilize the Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Library, located on the main campus, which houses over 113,000 printed works, 308,000 e-books, 59,000 e-journals, 6 printed journals, and 11,681 bound journal volumes.
Additionally, the department offers students opportunities to gain diverse academic and cultural experiences through Erasmus, Farabi, and Mevlana student exchange programs.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of our department can teach in various private education institutions, especially in the Ministry of National Education. In addition, they can work in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and various Ministries, TRT, private radio and television organizations, Turkish Language Association, archives and libraries of public and private associations, and work as writers and editors in newspapers and magazines.
